The Red Lagoon is located at approximately 3700 meters above sea level in the Arica and Parinacota Region, in northern Chile. It is accessible from the town of Camiña, located 147 km from the city of Iquique. This lake of hot water (about 40-50 °C) is also called “Red Sea” by the local people. Its depth is unknown to the locals who attribute supernatural powers to the red water. There are myths of mysterious disappearances and deaths of Aymara Indians who drank the water.
