In the 1800s, "magnificently gaudy” roseate spoonbills were heavily hunted for their feathers, which were used to make decorative fans and hats; now protected, they've rebounded across their range. Photographer Donna Bourdon captured this image in St. Augustine, Florida, as the bird floated down to its nest, and she counts it as one of her all-time favorite photos.
