MAPUCHE CLOTHES

17 Pines74 Seguidores
Woven clothes are a central element of Mapuche identity. Traditional symbolism determined which colours and designs would be used to make their ponchos (makuñ), woven sashes (trarihue), blankets (pontro), bedcovers and woolen bags. Symbols and designs speak their own language and tell their own story.

“VOZ is a contemporary fashion project that uses collaborative design innovation to aid indigenous artisans out of poverty by connecting them to the fashion industry”. They’re working with a Southern Chilean community of Mapuche weavers to empower their artisan women professionally, financially, and creatively. Love!

I love @VOZ Collective VOZ Spring/Summer 2014 Runway: VOZ means “voice” in Spanish, something Aarons hopes to give the talented Mapuche weavers by showcasing their rich visual and artisanal tradition on the international stage. #socialimpact #ecofashion
