The Great Ziggurat of Ur. Ur was a Sumerian city-state dedicated to the God of the moon, Nanna. It dates back to c. 3800 BC. The Ziggurat construction was finished in the 21st century BC by King Shulgi. The Sumerians were the first civilization in Mesopotamia (currently Iraq) and pioneered things such as irrigation, the wheel, and one of the earliest forms of writing called cuneiform.

Choga Zanbil, Ziggurat, Iran Chogha Zanbil (In Farsi language: چغازنبيل); Elamite: Dur Untash) is an ancient Elamite complex in the Khuzestan province of (now) IRAN. Chogha in Bakhtiari means hill. It lies approximately 42 km (26 mi) south-southwest of Dezfoul, 30 km (19 mi) west of Susa and 80 km (50 mi) north of Ahvaz.
