Cambodian Fish Amok: A Must-Try Dish!
If you’ve never had Cambodian food before, you should try it! Two Great Restaurants: -Battambang: https://battambangoakland.weebly.com/ -Phnom Penh: https://www.phnompenhhouse.com/index.html A standout dish for me is the Fish Amok or (Amok Trei). It’s considered to be one of Cambodia’s national dishes. The dish has a long history and is believed to have originated around the 9th to 15th century in the Khmer Empire. Delicious steamed fish curry is steamed in banana leaves and has a mousse-like texture that is light and includes delicious flavors of lemongrass, turmeric, galangal, garlic, and kafir lime leaves. Coconut milk and the addition of eggs create a very light texture. I prefer the dish from Phnom Penh as it was just more flavorful and more plentiful.
