If you're comfortable with cables, this sweater and hat won't be difficult to knit. If you're new to cables, but comfortable knitting a sweater, this would be a good pattern to try. Sizes range from baby to toddler. The various sizes are achieved by the type of yarn and its gauge, not by the amount of stitches. Lightweight yarns will produce sweaters for 3-12 month old babies. DK Sport weights will produce sweaters for 13-24 month olds. Worsted weights will create outfits for 2-3+ year old toddlers. Plain plied yarns work best. There are 3 different cable patterns to choose from -- Double Rope. Honeycomb and Oxox. All use just 2 basic crossings, cross 2 stitches to the right (C2R) and 2 stitches to the left (C2L). The crossings are made every 4th row, leaving 3 easy rows of knits and purls. All cable patterns include written instructions and charts. The sweater is knit on straight needles in an appropriate size for your yarn. A same size 24" circular needle is needed for the shawl collar.
