Growing up, my favorite childhood treats on hot summer days were the snow cones and ice pops sold by vendors on the streets of Tijuana.  Paletas can be either savory or sweet, and they can include such ingredients as tamarind with chile, cucumber with lime, salted plum, rose petal, hibiscus tea and even tequila.  With the sugar, water and fruit reducing on my stove top, I turned to the ice cubes in my freezer and tried in vain to smash them with a hammer or pulse them in my food processor…
