HMAS VIDAL (?), Big Swell. 1940. This needs research; the Australian Navy never had a vessel called Vidal. There was a Royal Navy survey ship, HMS Vidal. However, she was not launched until 1951. Still a great picture though.
Home Fleet flagship 14 in HMS King George V in 1941, the year she and HMS Rodney sent the German battleship Bismarck to the bottom of the Atlantic. Her sister Prince of Wales was heavily damaged in the preceding Denmark Straits engagement which resulted in the loss of the famous battlecruiser HMS Hood.
The damaged tanker OHIO, supported by Royal Navy destroyers HMS PENN (left) and HMS LEDBURY (right), approaches Malta after an epic voyage across the Mediterranean as part of convoy WS21S (Operation Pedestal) to deliver fuel and other vital supplies to the besieged island. OHIO's back was broken and her engines failed during earlier German and Italian attacks.
