I’ve painted each of these projects, and they are always tedious, but the right prep and paint finish makes all the difference! Ceilings I do flat because flat or matte paint hides the most imperfections. Ceilings “usually” aren’t the best drywall or plaster jobs in a home, and they could use the forgiving finish of matte paint. Planking or high-touch woodwork is always pretty with a subtle glow of satin or eggshell paint. It wipes off easily, and the low luster reflects light without pointing out imperfections. Built originally for a wealthy merchant, it was purchased in 2017 by George Hulse as a wedding present for his wife, the Californian tech entrepreneur Rose Hulse. A gem from the outside, it had been jarringly modernised on the inside, but it cried out to be restored to its former glory.
