The making of a collagraph plate and print Made from cardboard and varnish once i have drawn out the image i carve away at the surface of the card peeling back areas to make them more rough and then i coat the whole plate in varnish and build up layers of varnish to create highlights and textures . the print I have to run ink into the surface of the card and polish it off - the ink is held in the cracks and textures - when I put it through the etching press with damp paper a print is made !...
