Corncockle (Agrostemma githago), a summer-flowering Mediterranean annual of the carnation family. Its long, wiry stems can grow to around 1m tall and the flowers are around 2cm wide. Cultivars occur in a range of mauve to red shades. Agrostemma githago is a ANNUAL growing to 0.9 m (3ft) by 0.2 m (0ft 8in). It is not frost tender. It is in flower from June to August, and the seeds ripen from August to September. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Bees, Lepidoptera (Moths & Butterflies).
