Iconic Movie Dresses worn by popular Hollywood actresses in classic movies.

This clear and uninterrupted view of the Hollywood sign was taken at (what is now designated as) 3307 Deronda Drive way up in the Hollywoodland hills. The year was 1950, which means had the photo been taken a year before, the sign would have still read Hollywoodland. Well, sort of. The sign had fallen into such disrepair that the “H” had fallen over. In 1949 the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce removed the last four letters and restored the rest, which is what we’re seeing in this photo.

I’m wondering if this woman waiting on the corner of Hollywood and Vine had just booked a ticket at the American Airlines office that opened in 1955. MGM’s “Something of Value" starring Rock Hudson and Sidney Poitier at the Pantages Theatre came out in June of 1957. The corner now has a different sign alerting passersby that they’re at Hollywood and Vine, and it’s nice but there’s something classy and timeless about that golden ribbon above the woman’s head that I wish was still there.
