Using Embossing Folders For Gel Printing
You can use embossing folders to create wonderful prints on the gel printing plate. If you want to keep your embossing folders clean, you can emboss paper and use that instead. However, Gelli Arts® artist Birgit Koopsen has found an even better alternative: foam board, also known as foamcore. Gel Printing With Embossed Poster Board
Create durable texture plates for gel printing. Use your embossing folders to emboss poster board. Poster board is sometimes called foam board or foamcore and it consists of two sheets of smooth paper with a thin layer of foam in between. It’s sturdy and holds the textures very well. Watch a step-by-step video tutorial by Gelli Arts® artist Birgit Koopsen on our blog www.GelliArtsBlog.com! #gelliarts #gelplate #printingplate #monoprinting #printmaking #gelprinting #gelliplate #foamboard #artteacher
Use stencils to create texture plates
Creating texture plates using your stencils is easy. Place the stencil on chipboard and apply a layer of modeling paste using a palette knife. Remove the stencil and let dry well. Gelli Arts® artist Birgit Koopsen left it overnight to be sure that is was completely dry. Wash your stencil right away before the modeling paste dries on it. When the modeling paste is dry, you can use the texture plate like any other and print the opposite of the stencil design. #gelliarts #printmaking

How To Create A Marble Effect On The Gelli® Plate
Create a marble effect on the gel plate. Crumple (tissue) paper, a plastic bag, or baking paper and place it on the printing plate to pick up some of the paint. Gelli Arts® artist Birgit Koopsen prefers to use baking paper, as it picks up less paint from the plate which makes the texture softer. For an extra luxurious feel, she uses gold paint as a pickup layer. Steps: Roll out 2-3 colors of acrylic paint on the plate. Crumple your paper. Place the paper on top of the wet paint and lightly push it down. Remove the paper and let the paint dry. Add a thin layer of paint on top. Place paper on top while the paint is still wet and rub. Let everything dry for a few minutes, then pull the print. #gelliarts #gelplate #gelprintingkit #printingplate #monoprinting #printmaking #gelliplate

Gel Printing With Old Keys
What to do with old keys? They make amazing monoprints, so use them to create art following these instructions by Gelli Arts® artist Birgit Koopsen: Roll out a thin layer of acrylic paint. Place the keys on top. Make sure not to move them in the wet paint. Push them down with an acrylic block or chipboard to avoid picking up any paint from around the keys. Let everything dry. Remove the keys without leaving fingerprints in the paint. Apply a new layer of acrylic paint to pull the print.
Gel Printing With Leftover Stickers
What to do with leftover stickers? Did you know they make great texture tools for gel printing? Gelli Arts® artist Birgit Koopsen removes the sticker from the backing and sticks it onto cardstock. The differences in height and the material of your texture “plate” will create a texture in the wet paint on the Gelli® plate. Tip: you can also apply leftover stickers to a piece of card to create the opposite effect! #gelliarts #gelprinting #printmaking #monoprinting #printingplate #stickers
