Free: Save Sam with STEM! With a gummy worm, gummy lifesaver, a cup, and a paperclip, students will work in teams of two to solve a STEM challenge. Saving Sam is a great Back To School activity that my students love to complete each year! Not only does it promote teamwork, but it requires students to problem solve as well.What I love about this activity, besides the fact that my kids think it's FUN, is that I get to see first hand their problem solving skills, their ability to work together as a group, and I get a glimpse of their writing skills.

Saving Sam: good introductory to scientific method activity or get to know you activity.
Saving Sam: Sam is stuck on a boat, and how he got there is not important, but Sam can't swim and the boat is capsized. To get to shore, Sam needs to retrieve a life jacket from underneath the boat so that he can float to shore. You and your partner's job is to save Sam by retrieving the life jacket from under the boat and putting it on Sam. Unfortunately, the only tools you can use to accomplish this task are paperclips. #STEM
