Pergamo binding tutorial. This is a binding I have devised for a samples book of decorated papers that needed to open flat (see 'Samples Books' in this site). The name Pergamo comes from the fact that my first binding of this sort was made in parchment (pergamino in my native language) and its spine looks very much like a marble column of the old city. It is a very light structure that can be made in heavy paper or vellum. Its longstitch sewing is protected by the spine folds.

Dan Cormier, Woven Bowl, c.2000. “Inspired by Japanese textiles, I made this bowl by experimenting with domes. First using a dapping block (this bowl is 5 or 6 “dia.) then by scaling up using a previous size bowl to build the next larger one. Pattern here started as individual slices & sheets burnished together in a single flat veneer on a backing layer of clay for thickness; cut into desired shape then form over a dome. 12 dipped bananas 6 ripe bananas 1 pound almond bark 12 popsicle sticks Toppings. Insert a popsicle stick through the flat side of each banana so that there’s 2 inches of stick left showing. Chop up your almond bark and put it into a microwave-safe bowl and zap it for 30 second increments, stirring in between. About a minute and a half total. Pour melted chocolate into a tall glass. Dip bananas in chocolate and then roll in coconut etc. . .Freeze for 2-4 hours until frozen.

Using a flower "nail" to keep a cake from "doming." For large cakes, use more than one nail. Can also use the bake-level strips for added insurance. If you use parchment liners, put the nail down first, then the parchment (pierces the paper) then pour in the batter. When you flip the cake over, the nail will not lift the parchment unevenly causing a blemish in the cake bottom.
