Red Shouldered Hawk - I have seen them grab squirrels and morning doves drawn to bird feeders.
The Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) is a bird of prey that breeds throughout most of North America, from western Alaska and northern Canada to as far south as Panama and the West Indies, and is one of the most common hawks in North America. (Photo Dave Van de Laar)
Hummingbirds use hawks as their bodyguards. They often live under hawk nests to seek protection from jays, one of the biggest threats to their babies. Hawks like to stalk their prey from above, so jays avoid foraging below them, which creates a hummingbird safety zone. Source
This morning a beautiful hawk flew into our patio door. I can only hope that he is okay..he flew away, so I will pray that he will live to fly thru the skies. It hurt my heart to see his pain. I would have healed you if I could...Fly fly Fly
