“I have often listen to it, gazed at it, and I have always learn something from it. One can learn much from a river.” (Chapter 5, pg 40) River plays a big role in this novel as it is what separated world from the spiritual world. Meaning it changed Siddhartha's life as he crossed the river and entered the world with love and materialistic goods.
“He realize that he is no longer a youth;he was now a man. He realize that something had left him like the old skin that I snake sheds.” (Chapter 4, pg 30) Siddhartha leaves Govinda to find his own path and realizes that he is changing and now becoming a new person.
