Circa 1500 Messer The name of course means ‘knife’ in German, it gets this designation because of the way it is constructed, but it is in fact common form of short sword that was popular from the late 15th through the 16thC. This example is a composite of a few pieces and features a broad blade with a clipped and sharpened false edge and comes with a leather sheath and bronze chape.
