Let the green overshadow the grey!
Let the green overshadow the grey! City life can be hectic, but a splash of green can transform it. Urban forestry isn’t just about planting trees—it’s about blending environmental care with smart urban planning. This approach not only enhances the environment but also fosters a connected and vibrant community. Imagine living in a neighbourhood where the trees offer shade and cooling, birds sing, and a gentle breeze cools the air. These green spaces tackle the urban heat island effect where concrete and tar trap and release heat, keeping cities warmer. Trees are natural coolers abs absorbing solar radiation, cooling the air through evapotranspiration, and cutting down the need for energy-intensive air-conditioning.
Rapid urbanisation chokes life from the wetlands that sustain us.
Rapid urbanisation chokes life from the wetlands that sustain us. Wetlands around the world are rapidly disappearing due to urbanisation (ill-planned and unregulated), rampant pollution, and human-induced climate change. These vital ecosystems are drained for development, replaced with concrete, and subjected to harmful runoff that disrupts their delicate balance. Wetlands act as crucial carbon sinks and help regulate water flow and provide habitats for countless species. Yet over 50% of global wetlands have already been lost in the last century. We need to protect these vital areas - not only for the wildlife that depend on them but for the resilience of our environment and planet.

Towards Greener Pastures in 2023 The past eight years are expected to become the warmest on record, driven by rising greenhouse gas emissions and accumulated heat. We knew decades ago that this would happen yet, politics, greed and sheer stupidity blocked a proper response. In 2023 for the sake of unborn generations and our own, we need to ACT on the targets set out at hundreds of climate related conferences in the past years.

Conserving Sri Lankan Biodiversity & Heritage
The IUCN Red Data Book is a global resource, cataloguing species’ conservation status and extinction risks. The list continues to grow as biodiversity faces increasing threats from habitat loss, climate change and environmental pressures. According to the latest IUCN Red List, Sri Lanka hosts 66 critically endangered and 102 endangered animal species, alongside 156 endangered plant species. The Sri Lankan leopard is endangered due to habitat destruction and poaching, while the Sri Lankan elephant is facing worsening human-wildlife conflicts. Smaller species like tree frogs are endangered by deforestation and freshwater fish, such as the Mahaweli barb, are critically endangered from pollution and habitat loss.
Our actions cast shadows, and our shadows reflect them back.
Our actions cast shadows, and our shadows reflect them back. So too do our choices in how we treat the environment! According to Global Forest Watch, Sri Lanka has lost approximately 36,000 hectares of tree cover between 2000 and 2021, a loss that has contributed to the severe climate challenges we face today. This reflects the idea that when we cut down trees, the land becomes barren, casting a lifeless shadow. Conversely, when we plant trees and care for the environment, the shadow transforms into a vibrant green. Want to know more about our efforts in ecosystem restoration and climate adaptation? World Rainforest Day
Rainforests: Nature’s climate regulator! Dilmah realized the importance of helping Sri Lanka’s rapidly disappearing rainforests, which is when the Endana Nature Corridor restoration project by Dilmah Conservation was developed. An initiative that aims to increase the species richness of our rolling hills, bordering the Sinharaja Rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. 🌲 #WorldRainforestDay #Dilmah #Tea #Taste #Goodness #Purpose #DoTryIt
