Empanada de Ecuador .. .empanada de viento (with orange zest)
caipirinha the drink of brazil
Brazilian food!!! Brazilian Churrasco
Okay, so this one is not so delightful, in fact Cochayuyo is probably my least favorite Chilean food... but I could not have a Chilean food board without it.
So this one is definitely a Chilean delight! Humitas!!! My favorite of all Chilean foods!!!
Empanadas Chilenas! Another great "comida tipica" or traditional food from Chile!
Cazuela! Yummy, a delightful soup with large chunks of meat and vegetables!
Sopaipillas! Always a great Chilean treat! I still can't decide if I love them with sweet manjar or a savory chancho en piedra.
Chancho en Piedra! So yummy topped onto a fresh, hot sopaipilla!!!
Merkén! I love this hot Mapuche spice made from dried and smoke peppers! I wish I knew where to get my hands on some here in the states...
Ensalada de la Chilena! Tomato, onion, cilantro, oil, and of course lots of salt. You wouldn't think there could be much variation recipe to recipe, but no one has ever made it as good as Hermana Rut in Mulchén! Maybe it was because she added ají (hot green chiles)!
Carbonada! Very similar to cazuela, except that the meat and vegetables are broken down into more manageable sized pieces for eating. In my opinion carbonada beats cazuela any day.
Mote con Huesillo! Probably the most Chilean of all beverages (at least of those that LDS missionaries can drink...) I love this stuff! It is basically a dried peach in peach juice with wheat berries. So yummy! I once dressed up as Mote and my companion went as Huesillo to a costume party... fun times!
Pan Amasado! There is just something wonderfully tasty about Chilean bread (it probably has something to do with the high fat content), I love this stuff!!!
Ensalada de pepino! Cucumber salad! So simple and delicious! Just cucumbers, lemon juice, and salt!
