Chile - Deserto do Atacama
Antennas of the Atacama Large Array, 16,597 feet above sea level in the Atacama Desert, Chile. The conditions that make the Atacama, Earth’s driest desert, so inhospitable to life make it excellent for astronomy. Far from big cities, the Atacama has a dearth of light pollution. Its arid climate prevents radio signals from being absorbed by water droplets.
