Gorgeous ocean blue abstract art. You can do it. I spill what I’ve learned over the last 2 1/2 years
You’ll need: • Acrylic paints - use colors that make you happy. Do me, that’s ocean colors and a bit of gold for sparkle and contrast! Use a mix of opacities with the transparent more on the top so they’ll show the others beneath. • Base paint is wall paint. My current favorite is PPG multi-pro in eggshell. Nothing is mixed with it. • For the colors, I mix it 1:3 with a pouring medium of 50:50 varnish (polycrilic works very well) and untinted deep base acrylic paint (it’s quite thick) • For the cell activator ( the paint that goes on top and is blown out over the colors to make the cells), I mix that with the paint 2:1 and the cell activator is US Floetrol and Minwax prestain (oil based) (maybe 10 drops Minwax for 2 oz Floetrol - add more if you don’t get the cells you want. Round wave in ocean blues. Fluid art.
Acrylic fluid art. The base is PPG Multi Pro in eggshell, timted. The colors are mixed 1:2 with a medium of Behr 8300 untinted and polycrilic 1:1. The swiping color is Amsterdam titanium white mixed 3:1 with australian Floetrol. I love the way this turned out. Its hanging in my bathroom :)
Abstract fluid art. Sometimes it’s about the process and playing, not so much the results.
Difficulty: Medium Eggshell acrylic house paint for the base • Mix colors 3:1 with a medium of untinted wall paint (Behr 8300) and a water-based polycrilic (1:1) • The cell activator goes on top, that is Amsterdam lamp black and Australian Floetrol 1:1
Bright Hawaiian abstract acrylic painting
Mix your colors with a medium of untinted acrylic house paint and polycrilic or varathane. The cell activator that makes the pretty cells is Australian Floetrol and Amsterdam titanium white paint. The base is PPG 8300 tinted that blue. The cell activator goes on top. Layer your colors - try a transparent on top of an opaque. The texture comes from reusing a canvas which restricts airflow from the back, and that combined with it being too hot in the studio, caused the top layers to dry too fast.
Dutch pour and swirl. Botanical fluid art. Elevate your pour with fun details.
Difficulty: Medium Supplies: • Acrylic paint - I use Arteza, Amsterdam, Decoart and (for the base) Mont Marche • US Floetrol - mix 2 or 3 parts to one part paint • Water to thin - a bit thicker than Dutch pour, like warm honey rather than heavy cream • Canvas Make sure you level the canvas (I use push pins in the frame) or it can slide off when the paint is this thin. Layer as you like, blow it out with a hair dryer or otherwise. Then choose a center point and drag a finger or a tool through the white, into the colors to make a leaf pattern. You can always add more colored paint. If you don’t like your first try, scrape the paint into a cup and use the paint as a background! It can be tricky to get the consistency right, so test it on a tile first. The other challenge is gett

All the blues! Acrylic abstract fluid art you can do yourself! #fluidart #acrylicpouring
Difficulty: Medium Supplies • Most are shown on the pages. Things not listed: • Lazy Susan for spinning (or you can tilt) • Masking tape to keep the back of the canvas tidy • Push pins to keep the canvas off the surface • I used a mix of paints here - Liquitex, arteza, artist’s loft, but Amsterdam for the cell activator. I also find Liquitex Dioxazine purple works well as a cell activator. I’d try any opaque color :) • Layer your transparencies thoughtfully. Your trans parents will show the color below (sounds obvious but just notice how it works). • Spin off enough paint so that it doesn’t really move around anymore • Have fun!

Pink and gold abstract art - my favorite! Here’s how to do it step by step - all supplies listed.
Difficulty: Medium Supplies & instructions • Canvas • Base paint - PPG multi pro in eggshell (untinted white base) • Acrylic paints - I like at least one metallic color and one darker color but use what you like to look at • Medium for cell activator - US Floetrol with 5 drops of Minwax prestain per ounce • medium for colors - 1:1 deep untinted base house paint and varnish - polycrylic, jo Sonya, or varathane extra thick will work • Mix paints with 2-3 parts medium • Mix your cell activator color (I used Amsterdam titanium white - semi or opaque colors work best for this. Liquitex dioxazine purple is actually my favorite color for cell activator) • Start with a nice juicy layer of base paint. You want enough to really let the colors move though don’t worry about having enough
